Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has trained 45 entrepreneurs from Nasarawa and Benue States in the production of nutritious recipes.
The young entrepreneurs mostly comprising of women were producers of various types of products including food products from the two states.
Speaking at the three-day training on Monday in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Mr Orngu Africa-Orngu, Junior Associate Strengthing Nutrition In Priority Staples, GAIN said the training was aimed at ensuring food nutrition security.
He added that nutrition security was one of the most pressing challenges for sustainable social and economic development in the country.
“Meeting this need is our target in order to tackle malnutrition because the diets of many Nigerians are poor.
“Many Nigerians are currently experiencing vitamin and mineral deficiencies leading to severe health outcomes including premature and preventable death of children under five,” he added.
Africa-Orngu further said that their organisation was working in four priority value chains, cassava, maize, rice and potatoes.
He empowered smaller farmers and entrepreneurs with the technical know-how to contribute to the quality of diet being consumed in the country.
On his part, Ahmad Idi, facilitator said that said the training would help the young entrepreneurs produce products that are safe and nutrition.
He exposed the participants on the process of making more than five products each from cassava, potato, maize and rice.
He explained the process of producing juice from cassava leaves and making recommended infants food from potato root among others.
The practical session of the training would take place on Tuesday where some products would be made at the venue.
Meanwhile, the entrepreneurs displayed different products of their companies and some of them requested to be guided on the process for registration with the National Agency for Food Administration and Control (NAFDAC). (NAN).
