The leaders of the Fulani people have called on the youths of the extraction to reject banditry to redeem the bad image associated with them.

The leaders made the call at the Musical Concert of Peace and Unity for the Fulanis organised by the Concern Fulani Youths on Monday in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The concert brought together Fulani Artists from the various states of the country and Cameroon, Ghana, and Niger among others.

Speaking at the event, Ahj. Abdullahi Bello-Bodejo, National President of Miyetty Allah Kautal Hore, Fulani Socio-Cultural Association, said the call became imperative because their people were alleged to be the perpetrators of most of the banditry activities in the country.

The National President, represented by Eng. Ibrahim Adamu, Northeast Zonal Vice Chairman of the association, said their image had been battered for so long hence, the need to reorient their youths and redeem their image.

The Miyyeti Allah President also called on their youths to embrace Western education, agriculture, entrepreneurship as well as skill acquisition to fit into modern society.

He explained that the majority of Fulani people are law-abiding and hardworking and are greatly contributing positively to the development of the country.

“There are only a few who take into criminality like there are criminals in every tribe, so people should stop ethnic profiling of criminals,” he added.

Also speaking, Bala Dabo, Nasarawa State Chairman of Miyyeti Allah Kautal Hore, said that the need for their youths to embrace Western education and entrepreneurship cannot be overemphasised.

Dabo emphasised that their leader, Sir Amadu Bello, late Sultan of Sokoto,o had advised their people to embrace Western education, skill acquisition,n and rearing of animals.

“This is one of the takeaways from the life of our great leader, but, unfortunately, our people only embraced the rearing of animals and neglected the other two.

“There is a need for us to go back to the advice of the late Sultan to ensure that our people fit into the modern society and stay in peace with other ethnic groups,” he added.

On his part, Dr Awwal Aliyu, National President of the Northern Consensus Movement (NCM), said that the gathering was to enlighten the Fulani Youths on the need to shun any criminal activities and to prove to the world that they are good people.

Aliyu who doubled as the Chairman of the event, said the percentage of Fulani people engaged in criminality is insignificant and urged the public to desist from profiling them as criminals.

The NCM President also used the medium and appreciated President Bola Tinubu for creating the Ministry of Livestock Development.

Aliyu also appealed to the president to consider their people for empowerment and appointments into various positions in government just like other Nigerians, given their large population and spread.

The highlight of the occasion included a musical performance by Fulani artists from Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon, among others.

The personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) also made a presentation on the dangers associated with the consumption of illegal and illicit drugs. (www.krestnews.com).
