Worried by persistent cases of kidnapping, rape and armed robbery among other vices in parts of Nasarawa State, the Fulani ethnic group across Doma Local Government Area have distributed kola-nut to place a curse on their kinsmen who perpetrate crimes in the area.

The curse known as Fulako aimed at forestalling crimes and criminality in the area was placed during a security meeting attended by Chairman of the Council and Palace representative.

The security meeting had the Fulani ethnic group; Chairman of Doma Local Government Council, Jonathan Okuba Adara; Andoma of Doma represented by the Sardaunan Doma, Mallam Musa Adara and security operatives in attendance also brought together officials of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breaders Association to grace the traditional way of mitigating crimes and criminality in the area.

Advancing reasons for the security meeting and the Fulani traditional method of fighting crimes, the Nasarawa State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breaders Association, Bala Mohammed Dabo said it follows series of kidnapping, rapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling, stealing of livestocks and burning of farm​steads .

He said the traditional curse was meant to wreck havoc on their recalcitrant kinsmen and serve as deterrent to others directly or indirectly.

Commending the initiative on behalf of Andoma of Doma, Ahmadu Aliyu Oga, the Sardaunan Doma, Mallam Musa Adara said it will at least reduce most of the crimes being perpetrated in the community.

Appreciating Fulani group for their foresight, Chairman of Doma Local Government Council, Jonathan Okuba Adara noted that his administration will not relent in supporting every move aimed at curtailing criminality in the area and called for replication by other ethnic groups to rid Doma of crimes.

Performing the traditional curse ritual, Wakili Gi’re, Lamido Fulako Kombol and Hassan Chiroma Adamu from Nasarawa Eggon both advised security operatives, people in positions of authority and butchers not to undermine the curse as it has grave consequences.

The Fulani speakers commended leadership of Doma local government and the traditional council for ensuring sustenance of peace and unity among diverse ethnic groups in the community to make the area a safe haven for all devoid of acrimony.
