The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reinstated its commitment to partner the Nasarawa State Traditional Council in order to reduce road crashes in the state.

Corps Commander Lucia Samuel-Mhii, Nasarawa State Sector Commander of FRSC stated this during a courtesy visit to Retired Justice Sidi Bage-Mohammed, Emir of Lafia and Chairman Nasarawa State Traditional Council on Tuesday in Lafia.

According to the sector commander who assume duty in the state on May 6, the visit was to get royal blessing and seek for collaboration to ensure that the roads are safe.

She explained that the rate of road crashes on the highways is unacceptable and efforts must be made to reduce it to minimum.

She said human factors such as overspeedy, overloading, dangerous overtaking, drinking and driving, bad state of vehicles among others often lead to avoidable accidents and loss of lives and property.

She however, said that the federal and state governments have constructed new roads and rehabilitated old once but wandered why crashes in still at alarming rate.

She added that the factor responsible for most of the crashes is human factors and called on road users to desist from such unwarranted activities to reduce crashes.

The sector commander therefore, congratulated the Emir on his fifth years in the throne of his ancestors and wished him more years in good health.

Responding, Bage-Mohammed appreciated the sector commander and her team for the visit and promised to support her to succeed.

The Emir said that traditional rulers across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state would do everything possible to secure the lives of their people by supporting the command in their effort to ensure safer roads.

“We will also talk to our people to obey traffic rules and we will also support the corps to sanction anyone that disobeys the traffic rules,” the Emir added.

The Chairman of the Traditional Council therefore pledged to support FRSC in their planned town hall meeting with stakeholders in the state to find a possible solution to alarming rate of crashes. NAN).
