The Nigeria Apex Farmers Association, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has projected the production of four million metric tons of grains and other food crops production in this year’s cropping season in Niger State
The Chairman of the association , Alhaji Shehu Galadima stated this on Tuesday in meeting with farmers in Minna
It says”AFAN has commenced the special mobilisation of one million small farm holders across the 25 local government areas of Niger State for the cropping season’.
He explained that for the 2024 planting season, farmers will concentrate on producing rice, maize, sorghum, soya beans, millet, cow peas, yam and cotton.
“The expected output from the cultivation of these crops is over four million tons of food. We are working towards actualising the dream of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for Niger state to feed Africa”, he said
Galadima explained that the association will assist farmers with incentives and inputs including improved seedlings, adding that some inputs are already available for farmers.
He also said that insecurity in parts of the state will not affect the projected food production adding that peace has returned to most communities with adequate security for farmers to return to their farms.
