The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, has urged governments at all levels to subsidise diabetes medications to reduce the growing financial burden on people living with the condition.
The Emir made the call at his palace when members of the Institute of Diabetes and the Nutrition Society of Nigeria (Bauchi State Chapter) held a road walk to commemorate the 2025 World Diabetes Day. He was represented by the Galadiman Bauchi, Alhaji Ibrahim Saidu Jahun.
According to him, the high out-of-pocket expenses associated with diabetes management continue to worsen the hardship faced by patients, making government intervention both urgent and necessary. He commended the organisations for their sustained efforts in educating the public on diabetes prevention and healthy lifestyle practices.

State Chairperson of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Comfort Daniel Madaki, said the annual commemoration aims to deliver vital health messages to citizens across all social groups. She stressed the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise, and routine health checks.
“People need to eat healthy, exercise, and go for regular check-ups to know their status,” she noted.
As part of the activities, the society conducted free diabetes screening at the Specialist Hospital Bauchi.

The road walk, themed “Diabetes and Well-being,” took participants from the Emir’s Palace through major streets before terminating at the Bauchi Government House. Follow www.krestnews.com for more reports
