Mr Abdullahi Osanga (Elderstatesman)
By Alfred Akwe
An elder statesman and respected community leader, Uncle Abdullahi Osanga, has expressed deep concern over the growing tension caused by ongoing solid mineral mining activities in Agaza and Igo communities of Agwada District, Kokona Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
Speaking with Krestnews Online in Lafia, Uncle Osanga lamented that what should have been a blessing to the communities has instead become a source of division.
“Mining, which is supposed to bring wealth and joy, has sadly turned into a source of rivalry and conflict among our people, largely due to greed and manipulation by a few individuals,” he said.
He urged relevant authorities to intervene urgently before the situation degenerates into open conflict.
Commending the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, for his proactive handling of the situation, Osanga emphasized that the Speaker’s directive—allowing only licensed miners to operate—must be strictly enforced to restore peace and sanity in the area.
He also cautioned traditional rulers to remain neutral and not be swayed by financial inducements from foreign mining interests, especially Chinese operators allegedly enticing some local leaders.
“Our royal fathers must remain impartial. They are custodians of our heritage, not participants in conflicts driven by greed,” he declared.

The elder statesman called on residents to avoid violence, embrace unity, and support Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration, noting that the influx of investors should translate into development and prosperity for all.
