The Exploration and drilling works at the Ebenyi “A” Oil Well in Nasarawa State is to resume at the end this month, May 2024, after months of technical hitches that halted operations.
Chairman of the Advisory and Technical Committee on Oil and Gas, Doctor Hussaini Kasimu Oshafu made this known when he led members on a visit to the palace of Emir of Lafia and Paramount Rulers of Keana and Obi Local Government Areas of the State
Krestnews recalls that an Advisory and Technical Committee on Oil and Gas was constituted by the State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule with the mandate to mediate between the government, host communities and the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL to ensure seamless implementation of the project.
The committee was specifically tasked with the responsibility of advising on how to facilitate payment of compensation, process of corporate social responsibility and as well as come up with business plan that the state can invest as equity partner.
Speaking l on the way forward, the committee’ Chairman Doctor Hussaini Oshafu noted that aside the already stated mandate, the committee was to ensure ways of maximizing local content, increase awareness and train frontiers to key into oil and gas activities.
Doctor Hussaini Oshafu disclosed that the technical hitches that halted months of drilling work have been overcome hence, exploration operations would commence from the already four thousand feet of the twelve thousand feet expected to be drilled to meet the target.
Emir of Lafia Sidi Bage Muhammad while receiving the committee, lauded Governor Abdullahi Sule for the choice of the members and expressed confidence that with their experiences in oil and gas, success will be achieved.
In their separate comments, the Osana of Keana Abdullahi Ameqwa Agbo the Third and Osuko of Obi Alhaji Aliyu Dangiwa Orume expressed happiness with the committee’s visit which they said had availed them the needed information about operations of the oil exploration.
According to them,the visit also provided them the opportunity to make their communities feelings known to the authorities concerning the project.
