In Nigeria if election is of people with integrity, if it is about people with record of service to humanity, if the electoral system is devoid of fraud, if our voting is sincere and devoid sentiments of tribe, and religion, if our election is devoid of votes manipulation and all the political shenanigan that goes, with it people like Dr Haruna Kigbu, popularly called Doctor Talakawa should not be elected several times over considering his selfless services rendered several times and consistently over over the years.
He has never waited for the election period to offer medicare services for free to the vulnerable and to the ‘dust of the earth’. He is so compassionate in what he does such that across Nigeria, he is known for his selfless medicare services. He is called Likitan Talakawa (Pro poor doctor)
Dr Kigbu is vastly experienced in leadership such that once put on the spotlight, he shines as a million stars. His medicare team for Community is about the largest medicare caravan in west Africa and particularly Nigeria where there a huge poor population abd extreme medicare gap.He is imbued with leadership qualities that one could say are contagious. He can not be close to one, without regards to expressed sentiments, which seems to be the vogue in our country, without making positive impact. Dr kigbu will always treat you with courtesy, fairness and equity. He is so detribalized and kind-hearted.
My Chance meet with Dr Kigbu narration:
The day was Monday, December 30. My friend and I were returning from a failed function in Nasarawa Eggon, low and behold, we spotted. his vehicle parked at his project site somewhere along the Lafia-Nasarawa Eggon-Akwanga highway, and we decided to have a stopover to commiserate with him over the incident that happened to him and his wife, where they were kidnapped and his police aide killed. On siting our car at the gate he promptly asked that that the gate be opened without without waiting to enquire to know we were or what our mission was. The reception was warm beyond expectations, and that is one other attribute of his quality: humility and unparalleled kindness. We were overwhelmed with his sense of kindness. Infact he asked that I shared the seat with. Wow! I muttered internally.
From the short but impressive conversation we had, I saw the following qualities in him.
- Visionary Leadership: His Vision for a healthy society and most especially the vulnerable and those called the ‘dust of the earth’ made him to site his hospital project near the locals who will not have to trouble themselves by travelling far to acquire quality medicare. His vision for health and and the socio-economic well being of the people is of a unique mix. You could see passion and expertise in his presentation. He is so endeared to the people. He deserves the vote of the people should he thrust up any political ambition. The site of the hospital project tells me, he will always think of the people and trusted with leadership position.
- Experience: Kigbu demonstrated experience in developing and manage complex team of professionals in delivering quality health care, free of charge I could in him an extensive vault of experience, ready to impact many to navigate the intricacies of governance and make informed decisions that benefit the state.
- Transparency: Likitan Talakawa as he is fondly called by the poor and the vulnerable is transparent and ready to account for whatever is entrusted in him. To many that know him intimately say “he demonstrates a strong moral compass, earning the trust and respect of the community.”
- Progress: He embodies Progress. His commitment to champion Progress is very obvious. He chose the rural community to build the Talakawa Medical Centre. He demonstrated the fact that he is ready to rally the state’s best resources (human and material) to achieve the needed progress. For instance our short chat, he said, give me your phone number, I think we can work together. I felt honoured. As we along on our way, I asked my friend if he saw what Dr Kigbu saw in me that made him take my number. My friend who knew before that day simply said “Doctor’s vision over the years is for the state to be built on inclusivity, equity, and justice”. Wow! This is impressive isn’t it?
