Magistrate Court 3 sitting in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital on Wednesday Jan 31 reviewed the stiff bail condition for the 38 people arrested by the Nigeria Police on alleged Conspiracy, Unlawful Assembly, Protest and Disturbance by Fire.

The Presiding Magistrate,Mohammed Abdullahi-Lanze reviewed the bail condition while rulling on the application filed by counsels to the defendants.

The Magistrate said the earlier condition that the surely must be a Director with the State or Federal Government and submit the bond of N2 million was reviewed following the application by the counsels to the defendants.

He listed the new bail condition to includes; a reasonable surety staying within the jurisdiction of the court for each defendant and must submit his or her passport and a bail bond of N500, 000.

He therefore said that the defendants must be at the court at the next adjourned date, February 27, 2024.

Reacting to the rulling, Barr. Ayiwulu Baba-Ayiwulu, Counsel to the defendants told newsmen that at last the protesters would go home to meet with their love ones.

He added that the new bail condition is reasonable enough and expressed optimism that they would be out of the Lafia Custodian Centre before the end of day, Wednesday,because a lot of people are willing to stand as their sureties.

The Nigeria Police had on Jan. 19, 2024 arrested some people over protests that blocked the Lafia/Jos road after the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed the victory of Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State.

The police said that those arrested, comprising eight men and 30 women, had contravened the peace accord signed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC).
