College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia, today hosted critical stakeholders in the production of cowpea in Nigeria.
The meeting which held at the College Conference Hall, had in attendance people from the Academia, mainly from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi and the farmers group who are into the cultivation of the new variety of cowpea in Nigeria.

Krestnews reports that the meeting which is being coordinated by the UniAgric Makurdi, seeks to among other things discuss and seek feedback, recommendations and endorsement for features of collaborative seed systems networks.
Speaking further on the objective of the one day meeting, the Coordinator, Dr.Teryima Iorlamen explained that the meeting seeks to “provide participants with an over view of methods, tools, and materials for achieving our seed production and delivery goals”.

Speaking earlier in a welcome remarks, the head of the host institution, Dr Yahaya Maikafi, applauded AYISA project and Seed Equal implemented Nigeria for the interest shown in the cultivation of cowpea in Nigeria, especially the introduction of the improved public bred varieties and innovations.
He charged participants to take seriously the knowledge and information shared to achieve set objectives.

The meeting which is under the auspices of AYISA project and Seed Equal being implemented in Nigeria is aimed at ensuring. the farmers uptake of new improved public bred varieties and innovations.
The meeting later broke into technical sessions where participants look into critical issues relating to cowpea and soybeans production in North Central geo- political zone and particular, challenges and prospects.
