A Cleric has doled out scholarship to over 30,000 students from seven Nigeria universities during an outreach programme aimed at assisting undergraduates financially while encouraging them to shun unwholesome activities on campus.
The General Overseer of the Glory House City Church, Atlanta Georgia United States of America, Pastor Chuzzy Udenwa stated this in Minna while ministering to students drawn from all Tertiary institutions in Niger state.
Pastor Undenwa said that the beneficiaries are from six states adding that, “we also give small scholarship of N50,000 to each student in four categories at our campus crusades”.
While regretting the rot in our education sector especially at the University level, the cleric said that his ministry is dedicated to touching the lives of students mostly affected by the exorbitant cost of education in Nigeria, adding that, ” most of our students are getting frustrated because of the hardship. So we get some population of students and trained them at mind to get out of frustration “.
He said that although most Nigeria students are finding it difficult to cope with the increasing cost of education in the country, the education loan floated by President Bola Tinubu is not the solution to the problem adding that, ” it will fail woefully because students will not be able to pay back “.
He said, ” who will pay the loan back, is it the students or parents who in the first instance are too poor to afford the fund, most of whom are even struggling to feed?”.
Udenwa however argued that private organisations and individuals must intervene to rescue education as is attainable in other clines of the world, adding that, ” we can not leave education for government alone, individuals and organisations should donate generously to funding tertiary institutions”.
