Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has expressed the determination of government to protect the rights of children and safeguard them from the activities of bandits.
Bago stated this in a message issued in Minna to mark this year’s Children’s Day.
“Government is duty bound to protect children from any form of abuse and sufferings. All hands must be on deck to safeguard the children against activities of terrorists and ensure that they do not take up to crime”,he said.
He expressed concern over the level at which children are involved in various forms of social vices, maintaining that guardians and parents must rise to the task of inculcating good morals in their wards and children.
He explained that it is necessary to also provide the children with basic needs of life such as shelter, food, health and education, adding that they are priceless gifts from God.
” Our administration will not relent in initiating various programmes that will propel children to greatness” the governor declared.
