The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has officially rebranded Operation SAFE HAVEN into the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP). The announcement was made in Jos during the flag-off ceremony of the new Operation, signaling a fresh direction in the nation’s security architecture.
General Musa noted that Operation SAFE HAVEN had been instrumental in tackling the complex security challenges within its Joint Operations Area. According to him, it provided stability and reassurance to communities plagued by decades of recurrent violence. However, he explained that the rebranding became necessary to reflect a broader mandate and a renewed resolve to secure lasting peace.

In a statement signed by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of JTF OPEP, the CDS stressed that Operation ENDURING PEACE goes beyond temporary security. It is designed to foster sustainable peace, anchored on inter-agency collaboration, intelligence-driven strategies, and community engagement. He urged troops to embrace the new identity with pride, discipline, and renewed vigor.
In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of JTF OPEP, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, said the rebranding ushers in a renewed era of commitment, strategy, and purpose. He emphasized that the new Operation is a strategic realignment, aimed at making security responses more proactive and result-oriented.

Major General Oyinlola appealed to community leaders, religious institutions, youth groups, and civil society organisations to collaborate more closely with the JTF in addressing emerging security challenges. He assured the CDS of his command’s determination to restore enduring peace in the Joint Operations Area.
Also speaking, the Chief of Defence Operations (CDOPS), Major General EV Onumajuru, explained that the new Operation was designed to close gaps identified in previous security efforts. He said JTF OPEP would strengthen the early warning mechanism, dominate ungoverned spaces, and promote grassroots involvement in intelligence gathering.

The event featured key highlights, including inspection of the quarter guard, decoration of the Commander with the new JTF OPEP badge, hoisting of the Operation’s flag, and a special address to troops of the 3 Division and JTF OPEP. 👉 For more updates on national security and defence operations, visit www.krestnews.com.
