Krestnews reports from US says the U.S House of Parliament has passed a legislation that could ban TikTok in the US unless the app parts ways with its Chinese parent company, ByteDance.
CNN news monitored reports that it’s a major challenge to one of the world’s most popular social media platforms, used by 170 million Americans.
The report added that its not yet clear what the fate of the measure will be in the Senate.
However it is reported that President Joe Biden has said he would sign it if it’s passed.
If enacted the report indicates that the bill would give TikTok roughly five months to separate from ByteDance, or app stores in the United States would be banned from hosting it on their platforms.
TikTok says the legislation is an attack on the First Amendment rights of its users and urged them to call their representatives in Washington to oppose the bill.
The report quotes China’s foreign ministry responded angrily ahead of the vote, calling it an “act of bullying.”
