Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his approval for the immediate release of 102,000 metric tonnes of rice and maize from the National Food Reserves to tackle scarcity and high cost of living in the country.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, broke the news while speaking with journalists at the State House following the outcome of the meeting of the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention on Thursday.
He also disclosed that the Federal Government is thinking of importing more grains to tackle any shortages that may arise after the distribution of the food items.
The Minister has said that federal government is considering suitable actions against individuals hoarding food stuff to cause scarcity to maximize profit.
” It was emphasized that during emergencies, it is necessary to implement immediate actions to guarantee the availability to Nigerians”,he said.
