The National Association of Nigerian Students, NAN has threatened to shut down all the major cities in Nigeria as a result of the announced petrol pump price hike of 855 Naira per litre.
The notice of plan shut down by the President of Senate of the Student Association, Mr Okunumo Henry Adewune says “We write to notify you of impending massive shutdown of major cities in. Nigeria effective September 15, 2024, to protest the recent hike in fuel prices and gross incompetence of the NNPCL Managing Director, Mele Kyari”
It says the incessant fuel price hike has brought hardship on the Nigerian masses and went further to “idly stand by while our future is being mortgaged by the action of the few.”
The 4 paragraph letter of notification which is copied the security agencies and copy made available to Krestnews, demand the immediate reversal of the pump price and removal of Mele Kyari as DG NNPC.
It call on students across Nigeria to wake up to what it termed “this clarion call, as from September 15, we shall be occupying major cities.
It further says in the statement that “We shall no longer be silent and we sha nit be intimidated.”
And that they will rise in unison to demand for a better deal for the Nigeria student and the masses.
The student Body then called on members to take necesary action and ensure that the protest is peaceful, orderly all through the protest period.
He further assured that the protest will be peaceful and lawful.
The Nigeria Labour Congress has since described the announced price hike of 855 Naira pump price as a betrayal by the Federal Government.
As at the time of this report, NLC was yet to issue statement on the matter as it was reported that top officials we meeting to consider options.
