Krestnews reports that bandits have reportedly killed 30 members of Volunteer Security outfit called Yan Sa Kai (local vigilantes) in Dogon-Dawa community in Mariga local government area of Niger state.
According to the report, the incident occurred on Saturday morning during a battle between the vigilante group, and the suspected bandits in the area.
The vigilante group, the report added had been trailing the suspected bandits movement into their hideout when they were ambushed leading to casualties from both side after a serious exchange of gun fire.
Krestnews source who would not want his name mentioned said that there were also casualties from the bandits but I can not tell the figure . However I can tell you that no fewer than 30 of our local security members were killed “.
However, the Chairman of Mariga Local Government Area, Abbas Kasuwar Garba confirmed the incident to journalists in Minna on Monday.
He expressed concern over the incident especially at when residents are preparing for the farming season. He however called for calm as government will investigate the circumstances leading to the incident.
Efforts to get the response of the Niger state government and that of the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, SP Wasiu Abiodun at the time of filing in the report proved abortive.
