A call has been made by the Borno State govt for residents to be careful as they return to their homes after the flood that devastated the city last month.
The call came as a result of a recent explosion which killed one of the residents last week while he was cleaning debris from his home in Gwange suburb of the city.
The explosives initially blew his legs and he was rushed to the hospital for treatment but sadly he did not survive the trauma attached to the impact as he soon died the following day.
Consequently, flood Relief Co-Chairman, Prof. Ibrahim Umara, called on flood affected communities to stay vigilant during cleanup efforts, warning that explosives may have been carried in by floodwaters.
He added that the explosion was triggered while the man was clearing debris and evacuating large amounts of sand deposited by the floods into his home.
Prof. Umara urged community members to exercise extreme caution while cleaning their homes and surroundings, advising them to stay alert for any suspicious objects.
He emphasized the need for families in affected areas to prioritize safety during the post-flood cleanup process.
Prof. Umara cautioned residents against touching or moving any unfamiliar objects found while clearing debris.
He stressed that these objects could be dangerous and should be reported immediately to the authorities.
While confirming the explosion in Gwange, Prof. Umara urged the public to remain cautious and report any unusual findings to local officials for proper action.
