Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad has presented an unprecedented ₦878 billion proposed budget for the 2026 fiscal year, marking one of the boldest financial blueprints in Bauchi State’s history.
Addressing the State House of Assembly, the Governor emphasized that the budget—aptly designed to consolidate ongoing reforms and fast-track infrastructure renewal—allocates 65% to capital projects and 35% to recurrent expenditures.
The 2026 proposal represents a 41% increase from the 2025 budget, which achieved an impressive 79.1% performance rate, demonstrating what the Governor described as “Bauchi’s steady march toward economic transformation.”
Governor Muhammad noted that the upward review was informed by anticipated adjustments in service costs following the national tax reform expected to take effect in January 2026. He explained that his administration adopted a conservative and prudent approach to ensure realistic planning, accurate costing, and efficient implementation of government programmes.
He reaffirmed that the budget focuses on key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and human capital development, positioning Bauchi as a emerging model of fiscal responsibility and inclusive governance.
In his response, Speaker Abubakar Sulaiman commended the Governor’s foresight and pledged the Assembly’s readiness to give the proposal accelerated consideration. He called on MDAs to fully cooperate with House Committees to ensure smooth scrutiny and timely passage.
