Bauchi Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Katagum Local Government Area of the state following escalating security crisis in the aftermath of the End Bad Governance protest held last Tuesday.
The Governor said the decision followed a series of violent incidents resulting in the destruction of public property, theft, and victimisation in the area..
The governor’s directive is contained in a statement made available to journalists in Bauchi on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim.

Azare as a second largest town in Bauçhi state, reports have it that the violent protesters blocked the Kano – Maiduguri expressway and attacked innocent people, smashed glasses of the vehicles and disrupted commercial and social activities forcing residents to scamper for their lives.

The protesters looted many shops and vandalised government properties as they overpowered the security operatives in the area

The statement reads: “Due to the deteriorating security situation in Azare and its environments, Katagum Local Government Area leading to destruction of public property, stealing, victimization etc, His Excellency, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, CON the Executive Governor of Bauchi State has approved the imposition, with immediate effective, of a 24-hour curfew in Katagum Local Government Area, in order to contain the situation.”

The statement further contained that, “His Excellency has further directed all security agencies to wade into the matter and ensure that the hoodlums are fished out and brought to book”

“He further calls on law-abiding citizens to cooperate with security agencies at this trying moment,” The SSG added. .

Reports monitored from the area revealed that the protesters defued all entreaties and trooped to the streets of Azare, headquarters of the LGA.

They were said to have blocked the Kano – Maiduguri Expressway, smashed glasses of cars, forced shops opened and looted the items found therein just as they pounced on a few government properties which they damaged, vandalised and carted aways the items.

The Krestnews recalls no fewer than 60 protesters were arrested last Friday for alleged violent activities in the aftermath of the demonstration which commenced on Thursday in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad while providing an update to journalists on the arrest said a policeman was injured in the protest.
The CP revealed that the arrests were made for breaches of public order and unlawful assembly across the state
