Bassa Cultural and Development Union (BCDU), Nasarawa State Chapter has commended the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule for constituting a high powered committee for the reconciliation and return of some displaced people of Toto Local Government Area of the State.

The ethnic nationality particularly praised the selection of the committee members which is being chaired by the Emir of Lafia and Chairman Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, expressing the confidence that a thorough exercise will be conducted which will usher in lasting peace.

“We have always believed in dialogue as the best option out of any crisis. The Bassa/Egbura people have for years lived together as neighbors and had a lot of things in common…

“Therefore, the crisis in Toto labeled Bassa/Egbura crisis can only be resolved through dialogue”, stated in their statement.

According to the group, the confidence in the chairman of the committee, the Emir of Lafia, Hon. Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad stems from his pedigree as a man of impeccable quality who will deliver justice to the matter.

“Undoubtedly (BCDU) has confidence that the royal father will execute this important assignment of reconciliation and dialogue between the Bassa and the Egbura communities with due diligence.

They used the medium to appeal to members of the committee and the stakeholders that will be involved to give the royal father maximum support to discharge the assignment.

They commend Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, for the bold step taken in constituting the high powered committee.

The Union in a statement signed by the Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Gbaji, expressed its deep condolences and sympathy to those affected by the crisis in one way or the other, describing the reoccurrence of the incident as worrisome.
