Alhaji Ahmad Makama, the Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), has pledged that the local government election slated for August 17, 2024 will be free, fair, credible and acceptable.

Makama stated this when he spoke with newsmen in Bauchi where he said the election is expected to fill twenty (20) chairmanship, alongside 323 councillorship seats.

The chairman said an interactive meeting was conducted with all political parties and other stakeholders.

He explained that the commission has adequate funding to deliver its constitutional mandate, stressing that there will be no room for shortage of election materials.

Makama advised political parties and candidates to deeply scrutinise relevant sections of the constitution and electoral guidelines to play the game according to the rules.

He said the Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) used during the previous elections will be the valid authentication for the election and called for co-operation from the citizens to strengthen the electoral system.

Makama commended the support and synergy enjoined from key actors, particularly the security agencies and community leaders towards ensuring the conduct of a seamless exercise.

He advised political parties to ensure that they present acceptable and credible candidates to the electorate.

Many political parties interviewed expressed their intention to contest the election with the hope that it will not be “business as usual” or as in other states where the ruling party in the state always win the election
