In a bid to apply the non kinetic approach to end the war within the theatre of the insurgent war raging in north east of Nigeria, the Army High command has instituted the Chief of Army staff special scholarship award for students
The award will be given yearly to deserving students who meet certain laid down criteria to merit being given the support for their studied.
In a short ceremony held at the headquarters of operations Hadin Kai, yesterday, the theatre Commander Major General Waidi Shaibu said that the Chief of Army staff scholarship award was meant for indigent students in all the theatres of war over the country.
In the case of the North east theatre only one recipient Miss Bukar Nana-Fatima was qualified for the awards having gained admission to read Islamic law in University of Maiduguri.
The award of N0.5 million yearly will help the awardee to complete her course of studies without struggling to pay school fees which has been a major challenge to those who drop out of school for similar reasons tied to the conflict.
In his remarks just before presenting the award to the beneficiary, theatre commander Major General Waidi Shaibu revealed that this gesture was just one of the initiatives by the Army Chief aimed at supporting deserving students in the theatre.
” The beneficiary was selected this year as part of our non kinetic approach in woeing the hearts and minds of the people within the theatre of war” said Shaibu.
He commended the Chief of Army staff Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja for instituting such a scheme to unify the populace in all the war theatres of the country.
Responding after receiving the first cheque for the award which lasts till she graduates from the institution, Nana expressed gratitude to the Army Chief and assured that she will do justice to the financial support by excelling in her studies.
