The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of elite Special Forces under the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion to Plateau State, in a renewed push to stem the resurgence of banditry and restore lasting peace.

The deployment was confirmed in a press release issued by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Chinonso Oteh, who described the reinforcement as a game changer in the ongoing security operations across the state.

According to the statement, the Special Forces—already on ground—are mandated to aggressively and decisively confront armed bandits and criminal elements threatening peace in Plateau State.

The troops were formally received at the Headquarters of 3 Division, Nigerian Army, by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Brigadier General Senlong Sule.

Brigadier General Sule charged the troops to remain decisive, professional, and uncompromising in the conduct of offensive operations against criminal elements, stressing that the mission must be executed with urgency and precision.

Major General Oyinlola commended the COAS for his proactive leadership, particularly in the provision of critical combat enablers and logistics required for the effective execution of the troops’ mandate.

He further appealed to residents of Plateau State to remain calm, assuring that increased troop movements and deployment of heavy military equipment are part of coordinated efforts to secure lives and property.

While appreciating the sustained cooperation of the public, the GOC called for greater civilian support, especially through the provision of timely and actionable intelligence to assist troops in dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace across the state.
