The Bishop of Nigeria, Anglican Communion Lafia Diocese in Nasarawa State, Reverend Godwin Robinson has called on the political leaders at all levels to be committed to providing good governance aimed at tackling poverty and insecurity.
Bishop Robinson made the call during the annual synod of the church in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital.
The Synod is a three-day annual assembly of all clergies of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion to engage in a series of activities including sober reflection of the state of affairs in the church and the country with the view to charting a new course to enhance spiritual stability and prosperity for the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Bishop Godwin Robinson stated that given the growing outcry by ordinary citizens across the country due to the persistent economic and security challenges, what the Nigerian nation needs is a purposeful leadership that will restore hope and confidence in the people.
The Clergy called on the political class to focus on issues and programmes aimed at bridging the widening gaps between the rich and poor as according to him, the cardinal essence of leadership is not centred on amassing wealth but an opportunity to render selfless service to improve the living conditions of the people.
Speaking on the theme of the synod entitled “In Everything, Give Thanks” Bishop Robinson called on Nigerians not to lose faith despite the tribulations they are going through but they should always thank God in prayers and actions for keeping them alive.
The Nasarawa State Governor, represented by Deputy Governor Dr Emmanuel Akabe stated that the citizens had greater roles to play in ensuring good governance.
The governor noted that given the unrelenting support of the church, the state government would continue to provide people-driven policies for the growth and development of the state.
