Mal. Safiyanu Andaha, Akwanga, LG Boss
Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Council (LGC) of Nasarawa State, Safiyanu Andaha has vowed to tackle the alarming rate of kidnapping and other security threats in the area.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Akwanga, headquarters of the Local government area,Mallam Safiyanu explained that already he has set up a joint task force comprising various security agencies, traditional and religious leaders as well as community leaders among others as part of the inclusive approach toward tackling insecurity in the LGA.
He further said that the measures is a direct response to the directive by the House of Assembly which asked that all local governments constitute stakeholders summit on insecurity in their LGAs
“I acted based on the directive of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to tackle the recent security challenges bedeviling the council area.
“The assembly had asked us to collaborate with other stakeholders in our domains to summon a security summit and find a lasting solution to the issue of kidnapping and other security challenges,” he added.
The Akwanga LG boss said that the council had acted swiftly when the Igbo community notified them of their threat to shut down their businesses due to frequent attacks on Igbo traders.
Andaha explained that the council had put measures on the ground to protect the people in the area and their property as well as businesses.
News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, quotes the Chairman saying that people should treat security as everyone’s business, calling on the people of the area to report any suspicious movements to the nearest security outfit for prompt action.
