A women group under the aegis Advocate Women for Justice (AWJ) from Nasarawa State has appealed to the Judges of the Supreme Court to remain steadfast in the cause of justice and resist pressures in resolving the Nasarawa governorship dispute.

Leaders of the group made the appeal during a peaceful protest on Monday in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital.

The protest was in continuation of the agitation for justice by the group since March 18 when the governorship election result was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mrs Hanatu John said they believed that justice would be served in the governorship dispute of Nasarawa State given the courageous judgments on the cases of Kano and Plateau States on Friday, January 11.

“We are appealing to judges not to succumb to pressure by anybody, because doing so will destroy the name and reputation you people build for yourselves over the years,” she added.

She also commended the judges over their landmark judgments on the governorship disputes in Kano, Plateau and other states and appealed that same principle be replicated in Nasarawa State.

Similarly, Jemilatu Hussaini said the judges of the Supreme Court in their recent judgments had proven that judiciary was indeed the last hope of the common man.

She said they should use the same principle where only the candidate with the popular votes and that had highest number of votes would be declared as winner.

“The court should review the BVAS records of Gayam and Ciroma Electoral Wards of Lafia Local Government Area and other places where rigging was alleged to have taken place during the March 18 election before passing their judgment.

“Doing so will ensure that justice is properly served and would also restore the confidence of the people in the electoral process,” she added.

On her part, Charity Samuel said that she is trusting God that the justice served to the people of Kano and Plateau States would not be the last.

She said that the judges would also ensure justice for the people of Nasarawa State so that peace, unity and development would return to the state.

It could be recalled that Dr David Ombugadu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was challenging the announcement of Gov. Abdullahi Sule of All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the March 18 governorship election.
