Maikaya Development Foundation has registered no fewer than 750 vulnerable persons in Nasarawa State into the state Health Insurance Scheme.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the enrollment of the beneficiaries on Thursday in Lafia, Mohammed Maikaya, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said that the gesture was aimed at ensuring the wellbeing of the vulnerable person in the state.
The CEO explained that the foundation is a nonprofit organization aimed at improving the social, economic, and health well-being of the people.
He said that their key focus is on peace and economic empowerment for the youths and the women.
He added that the beneficiaries were carefully selected across the 174 electoral wards of the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state to complement the effort of the government.
Maikaya noted that his foundation had paid one-year subscription fees to all the 750 beneficiaries to enable them to access healthcare services.
He further said that the group had carried out a lot of empowerment programs for the youths and women in the last 10 years since formal registration.
“We touch the lives of people or communities based on need, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, gender, or political affiliation.
”We will continue to add value to the lives of our people in any way possible to make their lives worthwhile,” he added.
In his remarks, Dr. Dr Yahaya Bawa-Ubam, Executive Secretary of Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency, appreciated the foundation for keying into the initiative of government.
He explained that the initiative was aimed at providing easy and accessible out-of-pocket healthcare services to the people to better their living standards.
He appealed to political officeholders, spirited individuals, and groups to emulate the foundation and register people who were less privileged in their areas.
Declaring the event open, Gov. Abdullahi Sule expressed gratitude to the COE of the foundation for believing in the state government and supporting its initiative.
The governor, who was represented by Dr Gaza Gwamna, Commissioner for Health, said that health was one of the topmost priorities of the state government, adding that a healthy person is a wealthy person. (www.krestnews.com).
