The Police Command in Nasarawa State has arrested 38 people protesting in Lafia the State capital for alleged Public disturbance.
The suspects were immediately charged to Magistrate Court 3 in Lafia from where they were remanded at the Lafia Correctional Centre.
When the matter was mentioned for hearing by the prosecuting counsel, Danjuma Allu, Mohammed Abdullahi-Lanze, Chief Magistrate reserved ruling on their bail application to Monday, Jan. 22, 2024.
Earlier, Illiya Ashokpa, defendants Counsel pleaded that the Court should grant bail to his clients, but his application was turned down.
The protesters arrested consisted of five men and 33 women.
When contacted for reaction, DSP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State confirmed that some protesters were arrested.
The Police spokesperson explained that the protesters were arrested for causing Public disturbance after the judgment by the Supreme Court on the State’s governorship dispute.
The Supreme Court on Friday, Jan. 19 affirmed the victory of Gov. Abdullahi Sule of All Progressives Congress (APC) and dismissed the Appeal by David Ombugadu, candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the 2023 general elections. (NAN).
